The
long history of vine growing in Salento is of course connected to
the particular pedoclimatic conditions of the area which make of
this peninsula the perfect land for the production of great wines.
The climate is maritime, with scarce and irregular rains and with
sea breezes which mitigate the hot summer, make the winter milder
and shorten the spring and autumn seasons. The average temperature
all year round is 16-17°, with maximum temperatures reaching 38-40°
and minimum 2-7°. The soil, mainly calcareous and clayey with sandy
and tuff areas, creates the ideal conditions for the cultivation of
vines producing strong, generous and warm wines with broad and
persistent perfumes.
The
history of wine here is strongly connected to soil, climate, vines
and people. Therefore the unique identity of this land, product of
different influences, constant technical and cultural exchanges, is
also reflected in its traditional vines, in the cultivation systems
and of course in its wines.
